After 30 years in business and 20
years with the name "Florida's Radio
Networks", FRN has changed its name to the
"Florida News Network".
FNN General Manager Mark McCauley said the change
reflects the network’s new emphasis on internet
news syndication with a service it calls
“Florida Broadband News”. “Our expansion
into the internet and wireless markets and desktop
news products made this decision a no-brainer”
says McCauley. “We’re more than just radio
these days”.
McCauley stressed that FNN’s core business will
still be its 60+ station radio network which began
operations in 1978 as “The Florida Network”
and was renamed to “Florida’s Radio
Networks” in the late 1980’s.
FNN will celebrate its thirtieth
anniversary this year.
FNN
provides radio newscasts and news resources to 60+
Florida
radio stations in English and Spanish on a daily
basis as well as a weekly gardening program with
University
of
Florida Extension Agent Emeritus Tom MacCubbin
, and a news/public affairs talk show hosted by
Reagan Smith and former Congressman Lou Frey
called “Florida Roundtable”.
In addition, the network syndicates website news
articles that appear on more than 40 websites
including
GoFla.us
which is accessible on mobile phones as well as
computer web browsers.
