Virginia Governor Ralph Northam is helping those who are battling the coronavirus. Northam donated plasma today which will help treat patients trying to fight off the virus and he is encouraging others to do the same.

The governor and his wife tested positive for COVID-19 in September. In August, the F-D-A issued an emergency use authorization for COVID-19 convalescent plasma amid the pandemic.

A Richmond city councilmember is planning to seek out a seat in the House of Delegates. Mike Jones of the 9th District told 8News he wants to run for the 69th district currently held by Democrat Betsy Carr of Richmond. He would run as a Democrat. Police reform has been one of Jones' largest talking points as a councilman.

The Petersburg School District is calling off its winter sports on the schedule. The district decided yesterday to forgo the winter season, joining central Virginia systems like Richmond and Henrico (Hen-RYE-co).

Hanover County Schools chose earlier this week to stick with the season beginning January 4th. Teams are still not allowed to practice until that time.
