Aiken County Representative Bill Taylor proposes that cities that take down historical monument should be defunded. According to the Aiken lawmaker, monuments are tools for people to learn from our past. Watch Fox 57 News reports while Taylor doesn't believe in the removal of monuments, he believes the full story should be told. Under the Heritage Act, cities cannot remove monuments without it passing through the legislature.

The North Myrtle Beach Sea Turtle Patrol found over one hundred dead hatchlings after Isaias blew through. Volunteers also found another nest and put up protections around it. Five other known nests are missing under additional sand that the storm pushed onto the beach.

Researchers at Coastal Carolina University are concerned with how quickly erosion occurred along Cherry Grove Beach during Hurricane Isaias. Storm surge not only washed parts of the dunes out to sea, but also pushed sand onto local streets that were underwater for hours. Paul Gayes is the director of the university's Marine and Wetland studies program. He tells WPDE it will take weeks, if not months for sand to build back up naturally on the dunes. He is also concerned that the frequency of storms in recent years is not giving the beach the time it needs to fully recover on its own.
