Virginia is seeking to join more than a dozen states in changing the way its electoral votes are counted. The House of Delegates passed a bill this week that gives its electoral votes to the national winner of the presidential popular vote. The bill would make Virginia part of the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.

The future of a Confederate statue in Alexandria is uncertain after Virginia lawmakers approved bills that give local governments the power to remove such monuments from public spaces. Alexandria Mayor Justin Wilson says a state law prevented local leaders from removing the [Ap-po-mat-tox] Appomattox statue in 2016, even after a unanimous vote to do so from council. If the governor signs the bill into law, Wilson says Alexandria would begin the process of removing the Appomattox statue from Old Town.

Downtown Richmond is expected to be crowded today with thousands of people rallying against abortion. The second annual March for Life gets underway with a host of people speaking just before noon outside the state Capitol. The march goes through downtown beginning at 12:45 p.m. Drivers are reminded of road closures around that area from noon to three.
