Progress is being made in mail deliveries for the commonwealth.Preview: Governor Youngkin is establishing a task force to review recent changes to a program that helps military families pay for college. The governor issued an executive order Wednesday calling for a study of the Virginia Military Survivors and Dependents Education Program. The program had offered college tuition waivers to the children of veterans who are more than 90-percent permanently disabled. The General Assembly modified the program this year to require eligible students to seek other financial aid before asking for a waiver. The governor said the review is necessary to help reduce the impact on military families and avoid any unintended consequences.
A Chesterfield County student credits a unique program for turning her life around. Nevaeh Chaisson was one of ten people who graduated yesterday from the Chesterfield Recovery Academy. It's for students who want to overcome substance abuse and graduate from high school. Chaisson says she started using in the 11th grade when friends introduced her to opioids and marijuana. That led to skipping school and getting in trouble, but she decided to enroll in the program when she realized she wanted to change. The program is the only one like it in the state, and Chaisson calls it a blessing. She tells CBS 6, she's amazed at how far she has come in the last year, and she's a completely different person.
