One mother is asking you for help as she contines the search for her missing child last seen 6 years ago.Preview: A local security expert is asking parents to play a role in making sure graduation ceremonies in Richmond are safe. The school district recently announced changes were coming after a deadly shooting outside Huguenot High School's graduation ceremony last June at the Altria Theater. There won't be any ceremonies at the theater this year. Instead, the Greater Richmond Convention Center will be used. Security analyst Mike Jones says that's an easier space to monitor than the theater. Those entering the venue will have to pass through metal detectors, and Jones expect extra patrols outside, too. He also tells 8News parents need to be aware and alert and notify police if they see anything suspicious.
A Fairfax County firefighter is making history by being promoted to battalion chief. Fairfax County Fire and Rescue announced the promotion of Felicia Barnes yesterday. The announcement noted that Barnes is the first African American woman to hold the position in Fairfax County. Barnes served as a police officer before joining the fire department in 2002.
