A woman is facing obstruction charges after being arrested during a protest against the Mountain Valley Pipeline. The Roanoke County Police Department says Amelia Greenwald of Dayton was arrested during yesterday's protest in the Bent Mountain area. Greenwald reportedly attached herself to barrels to try to keep workers from accessing the site. Protesters have been trying to block the natural gas pipeline since construction began several years ago. Courts disagreed and the owners of the pipeline hope to finish it by the end of this month.

The United States is suspending funding for a controversial virus research group alleging they lied about their work with COVID-19. The Department of Health and Human Services also proposed a formal debarment to block New York nonprofit, EcoHealth Alliance, from receiving federal funds in the future. A House oversight committee says EcoHealth facilitated gain-of-function research in Wuhan, China without proper oversight, willingly violated multiple requirements of its multimillion-dollar National Institutes of Health grant, and apparently made false statements to the NIH. President Donald Trump publicly questioned EcoHealth’s work in Wuhan back in April 2020.
