A woman will serve time for a deadly crash in Richmond. Shanthi [[SHAHN-thee]] Bhagat [[bah-GAHT]] was sentenced yesterday to 12 months for last year's crash that killed VCU student Mahrokh Kahn as he was crossing at North Laurel and West Main streets. Bhagat was convicted of reckless driving and failing to obey a traffic signal.
Just how far will you go to protect air quality? New research shows just the smell of food cooking is a sign of air pollution. A new study from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration measured what they called "underappreciated sources" of urban air pollution. Researchers found that cooking accounts for a nearly a quarter of volatile organic compounds in the air. Those are human-made chemicals. Researchers are still looking at what these results mean for air quality, but the study's lead author says having the data is the first step to making policy decisions.
