A man is receiving a 33 year prison sentence for shooting his girlfriend to death last year in Richmond. Dajon Baskerville was sentenced this week after being found guilty of second-degree murder and using a firearm in the commission of a felony. Authorities say Baskerville shot and killed Summer Fuller in February of 2023 in an apartment in the 42-hundred block of Chamberlayne Avenue.

Flags on state and local buildings will be lowered today to honor the victims of a 2019 shooting in Virginia Beach. Governor Youngkin issued an order to lower flags to half-staff in memory of the shooting at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center. Twelve people died and four others were wounded in the shooting. Flags will remain lowered until sunset.  
 
 
Hate crimes have doubled in California over the past ten years. According to the Public Policy Institute of California, reported hate crimes reached a low in 2014, then began to spike in 2019, and continued increasing from there. Critics of Governor Gavin Newsom say this has happened on his watch while he criticizes other states, calling them havens for racism.
