A kitten is being cared for in Prince William County after being rescued from a trash compactor. Animal control investigators say an attendant at a convenience site in Darlington Heights heard the kitten meowing inside the compactor early yesterday. The attendant found an orange bag inside the compactor containing three kittens. Two of the kittens had already died, but the third was taken to a vet to be checked out after a bath. Investigators believe the bag was thrown into the compactor yesterday and are looking for information that could lead to a suspect.

Overnight rainclouds brought heavy rainfall to Southwest Virginia this week, causing a landslide that delayed the governor's visit. The Cardinal News reports a massive 100-ton boulder, loosened by the rain, crashed onto U.S. 19, causing traffic delays in Washington County Thursday. Governor Glenn Youngkin's motorcade was one of many motorists delayed by the rockslide - the governor on the way to an event in Wise County. VDOT crews worked to clear the obstruction, with hopes of reopening the road by midday Friday.
