A group is going to court after it was denied access to a park in Petersburg. The Knights of Columbus filed a motion yesterday for a temporary restraining order. The group wants to use Poplar Grove National Cemetery for its annual Memorial Day mass, but the National Park Service won't let them. The Knights of Columbus has held the mass at the park for over 60 years, but a law bans religious services from national cemeteries. The group's lawyer says the law has been on the books for more than 35 years, but it wasn't until last year that they were denied use of the park for the event. He says this violates the First Amendment, and he tells 12 On Your Side, banning them from the cemetery based on their religion makes them second-class citizens.

A Prince William County educator has been named Virginia's Outstanding High School Principal of the Year. The Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals gave the award to Lisamarie Kane earlier this month. Kane has been principal at Osbourn Park High School in Manassas since 2020. Kane studied food science in college and worked as a chemist for about five years before transitioning to a career in education. She's worked for the Prince William County school district for the last 16 years.
