Mayor Levar Stoney said that yesterday after a judge denied a temporary restraining order filed by a resident who opposes plans for a new baseball stadium. The deal calls for the stadium to be funded by 170 million dollars in bonds. The city council approved the deal last week, and Paul Goldman sued to get the issue before voters in a referendum. While Goldman's request was denied for now, he tells 12 On Your Side, he's looking forward to a full court hearing next month where he can argue for the rights of the people.
The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles wants more motorcycle riders to get the proper license endorsement. The agency says one in four riders involved in crashes have not received a motorcycle endorsement. The DMV announced this month that it will begin accepting certificates earned through the Basic RiderCourse Two. The course is designed for experienced riders and can completed more quickly than the original Basic RiderCourse.
Hedge-fund billionaire Ray Dalio thinks Civil War is possible in the U.S. The founder of Bridgewater Associates told the Financial Times this week that he doesn't think it will necessarily be a war where people grab guns and start shooting, but it could see people moving to states that align with their political views. Dalio said that the upcoming presidential election will be the most important in his lifetime. He suggested that investors think about moving their money away from the US economy and into foreign markets.
