Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin says he won't cancel his planned commencement speech at Virginia Commonwealth University despite a planned protest. Some students and staff members urged the governor to cancel the Saturday appearance after several groups announced they would protest inside and outside the Greater Richmond Convention Center. At an event yesterday, Youngkin said the commencement ceremony is about celebrating the graduates and shouldn't be disrupted in pursuit of some other goal. VCU police say anyone who disrupts the Saturday ceremony could be asked to leave or face removal from the event.
